The STFM Medical Editing Fellowship provides one faculty member a yearlong experience with the editorial and publishing teams at Family Medicine, a scientific journal of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.Through this part-time, virtual fellowship, early or mid-career faculty receive coaching and hands-on experience at the journal to improve their skills in writing, reviewing, and editing scientific papers. The fellowship begins in May each year.
Fellow Responsibilities
- Participate in regular calls with the editor-in-chief for mentoring.
- Participate in weekly conference calls with the journal’s editorial team.
- Participate in the editorial review process under the supervision of the editor.
- Assist the editor in selecting content.
- Attend the journal’s editorial board meeting at the STFM Annual Spring Conference (not funded).
- The time commitment averages about 4 hours per week.
Eligibility for the Fellowship
- Applicant must be an early- to mid-career faculty member in a department of family medicine or family medicine residency.
- Applicant must be an active STFM member.
- Preference will be given to those with writing and reviewing experience.
