Scott's Family Medicine Story
My name is Scott Orlov. I am a medical student at Thomas Jefferson University.
What Was Your Path Into Medical School?
My experiences contributing to quality improvement (QI) projects and leading a medical student journal club have strengthened my interest in academic family medicine, which I’m excited to continue exploring through STFM. As a first-year medical student, I joined a QI project implementing and evaluating a multidisciplinary hypertension management program at an urban academic family medicine practice serving under-resourced populations. Delivering an intervention to promote health equity in primary care and then measuring its positive effects through data analysis was very inspiring. I found it rewarding to carry out tangible healthcare solutions whose impact could be demonstrated through evidence. As research and scholarship continue to advance within family medicine, I’ve enjoyed sharing these innovations with peers through meaningful discussions in a student-led journal club.
How Will This Scholarship and Getting to Attend the STFM Conference on Medical Student Education Impact You?
I’m extremely grateful to receive the STFM Foundation Student Scholarship, which will allow me to attend the STFM Conference on Medical Student Education and connect with leaders in academic family medicine as I prepare for residency and beyond.
