Conference on Medical Student Education

Networking & Events

Welcoming and Networking Reception: Thursday, January 31; 5:30-7 pm
Kick-off the conference and enjoy some snacks while mingling with friends!

Dine-Around Night: Friday, February 1; 7 pm
Join your conference friends and colleagues for a fun dining experience on Friday night. A variety of restaurant options will be available in downtown Jacksonville. Sign-up sheets will be posted at the conference registration desk. Participants are responsible for meal costs.

The STFM Foundation Fun Run/Walk: Saturday, February 2; 6:30 am
Socialize with colleagues, get some exercise, and raise money for the STFM Foundation at the FunRun/Walk! The STFM Foundation supports programs that build our academic pipeline, like student scholars to attend this conference. You may also participate in honor of someone you wish to recognize. We are asking for a $50 donation and all participants (donor and nondonors) receive a t-shirt (while quantities last). If you’d like to make a different donation to the STFM Foundation to help develop the next generation of our family medicine faculty, go to http://www.stfm.org/Foundation.

Yoga 101: A Beginner’s Session: Saturday, February 2; 6:45–7:30 am
Join your colleagues for this beginner class that introduces the fundamental principles of alignment in a flow of postures linked together by the breath. You will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. This is a wonderful way to unite the body, mind, and spirit. No experience needed. Wear clothes that are easy to move in, and bring a Yoga mat or hotel towel. No additional fee.

Evening Event: Saturday, February 2; 7-9 pm—Legends, Liars, & Lagers Walking Tour
Join local historian and storyteller Gary Sass for an entertaining walk through downtown Jacksonville (with a ghostly twist)! The tour subject is legends of Jacksonville, however, there is a twist to this tour; one of the stories will be a complete lie! Have fun mingling along the way to figure out which outlandish story is false. Modeled after the famed London Pub Walks, the tour will include a mid-way stop for an adult beverage (included in price). The tour will end outside a pub and the first participant to guess which story was the lie, will receive a free drink! Length: 2 hours. Distance is 1 walking mile.
Additional Fee: $27/person; includes one drink mid-way on tour. Participants must be 21 years or older. Note: This tour is limited to 30 participants. There is a 15 person minimum for this tour; STFM reserves the right to cancel the event if minimum is not met. If the event is cancelled, STFM will provide a full refund.
