Developed from training workshops to improve preceptor teaching skills, the PEP2 materials consist of two major components: 1) PEP2: A Guide for Teaching in Your Practice is a workbook that provides instruction and advice on how to teach students and residents in your practice. This workbook includes the written instructional materials that preceptors receive during PEP2 workshops. 2) The second set of materials, called PEP2: A Facilitator's Guide for Conducting PEP2 Workshops, is designed for faculty who will conduct PEP2 workshops. Note that the PEP2 workbook can be used without having to participate in a workshop. The Facilitator's Guide includes the workbook plus detailed instructions on how to teach each of the PEP2 modules and a videotape. Both manuals contain a Preceptor Action Card, a laminated, pocket-sized list you can use as a quick reminder of important concepts presented in the manuals. The modules include organization/planning strategies, observation skills, teaching and feedback skills, evaluation strategies, and approaches to solving problems, and a new module on teaching and learning collaboratively that includes a section on informatics.
