STFM Group on Oral Health Releases the Third Edition of the Popular Smiles For Life Curriculum 
Train your learners to promote oral health to their patients through the use of these high-quality educational modules developed by the STFM Group on Oral Health. Smiles for Life: A National Oral Health Curriculum features seven modules covering the relationship of oral to systemic health, child oral health, adult oral health, dental emergencies, oral health in pregnancy, fluoride varnish, and the oral examination.
 
Smiles for Life is the nation’s most comprehensive and widely used oral health curriculum designed for primary care clinicians. Curricular components of the first two award-winning editions of Smiles for Life have been downloaded more than 100,000 times. All materials is available free at www.smilesforlifeoralhealth.org.
 
The curriculum is endorsed by the American Academy of Family Physicians, and support for the development of the Third Edition was provided by the DentaQuest Foundation.

The Family Practice Management Award for Practice Improvement, cosponsored by Family Practice Management, is offered annually to a primary care practice or practice organization that has made significant improvement in one or more of the following: clinical outcomes, clinical process improvement, patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and practice efficiency and productivity. This award will be presented at the Conference on Practice Improvement. Nomination Deadline: August 2.


Do You Know a Family Medicine Resident That Provides Outstanding Patient Care and Education in the Medical Home Setting? 
The H. Winter Griffith Resident Scholarship for Excellence in Practice Improvement and Patient-centered Care recognizes excellence in practice improvement involving patient-centered care by an outstanding family medicine resident
in the family medicine medical home setting. The resident chosen will receive a $1,000 scholarship, an award certificate, and complimentary registration to the Conference on Practice Improvement. The resident will also be invited to present his/her work as a distinguished poster at the conference. Scholarship applications are due by August 2.

Would You Like to Teach or Research Abroad? Deadline Approaches to Apply as a Fulbright Scholar?  
The Core Fulbright Scholar Program sends more than 800 US faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields in more than 125 countries around the globe.

Thomas Egnew, EdD, STFM member and a behavioral scientist at Tacoma Family Practice, Tacoma, WA, was a 2007 Fulbright Scholar. "The exposure to a different model of medical education was very stimulating. The opportunity to exchange ideas and challenges of teaching students about the doctor-patient relationship was invaluable," stressed Dr Egnew.
