A Student-run Free Clinic: If Your University Doesn't Have One, It Should
In this month's Education Column, Wanda Gonsalves, MD, describes how student-run free clinics are an excellent method to help students achieve the learning outcomes that family medicine educators want: learning to be empathic, critical thinkers about the community in which they live. Dr Gonsalves discusses that the growing interest in student-run free clinics, along with the enthusiasm generated by students and faculty for this teaching method, should stimulate more research for student learning outcomes and hopefully lead to more interest in family medicine as a career choice. STFM Foundation Is Accepting Applications for the Faculty Enhancement Experience
Do you have a project you'd like to improve? Do you want to learn from others who are doing similar projects successfully? Consider applying for the STFM Faculty Enhancement Experience. Established in 1996, the Faculty Enhancement Experience provides support for a 2-week visit by family medicine faculty to learn from leaders at institutions other than their own. Since its inception in 1996, more than 45 individuals have completed this program sponsored by the STFM Foundation. Learn more.

Kudos to STFM Members
Several STFM members have been newly elected to the the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). New ABFM officers include STFM members Warren Newton, MD, University of North Carolina, as chair elect; and John Bucholtz, DO, Columbus Family Practice, Columbus, Georgia, as treasurer. In addition, Alan David, MD, Medical College of Wisconsin, and Carlos Jaén, MD, PhD, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, will serve as new members of the ABFM Board of Directors.
Other STFM members serving as current members of the ABFM Board are: Diane Beebe, MD, University of Mississippi; Erika Bliss, MD, Qliance Medical Group, Seattle, WA; Larry Green, MD, University of Colorado; and Samuel Jones, MD, VCU-Fairfax Family Practice, Fairfax, VA.
