Musculoskeletal Education/Sports Medicine
The role of the Group on Musculoskeletal Education/Sports Medicine is to be a resource on sports medicine topics for all STFM members. The group helped develop guidelines for a curriculum in sports medicine and is now helping programs integrate a longitudinal experience in sports medicine into residency training. The group is also committed to expanding capacity in primary care sports medicine and presents skill workshops at STFM annual meeting sessions to help build that capacity. The group also brings together researchers in sports medicine, promotes dissemination of their work, and plans collaborative research projects. Finally, the group works to inform all STFM members that sports medicine is an integral part of family medicine, emphasizing active lifestyles, health promotion, and disease prevention.
