Society of Teachers of Family Medicine

LGBT Health

The goals and objectives for the Group on LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Health are to increase awareness, comfort, knowledge, and skills among the family medicine community regarding health issues impacting lesbian, gay, and bisexual people and to provide mentorship for medical students, residents, and junior faculty.

The group's objectives include: to encourage presentations pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender health issues, including both research-oriented and teaching-oriented topics; and to make resource and curriculum materials for lesbian, gay, and bisexual health issues available to STFM members through the STFM Family Medicine Digital Resources Library.

Our group focuses on two of the core values noted in the STFM strategic plan, with our purpose being to advocate for social justice to improve health and to improve the quality of care, specifically of lesbian, gay, and bisexual populations, in family medicine. We celebrate diversity and multiculturalism, both among providers and patients and work to address inequities in health care through outreach and education as described above.
