The goal of this group is to promote education and understanding about the rapidly changing environment in genetics and genomics. Particular focus will be on the relevance of new genetic tests and their relation to family medicine. Emphasis will also be on the best methods of family history gathering and interpretation. We also wish to begin a process that will help the family physician begin to counsel patients about genetic issues. We will seek to be a source of information about current issues in genetics, including case studies for educational purposes, Web-based resources, evidence-based research regarding genetic testing, and the emotional, ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics.
