The mission of the Group on Faculty Development is to support the ongoing development of well-prepared faculty in academic and community-based family medicine, to create a scholarly record of faculty development leadership by family medicine faculty, and to enhance the professional development research agenda. Its goals are (1) to support and enhance faculty development activities within STFM and the growth of STFM members as faculty development leaders, (2) to work with and support the faculty development activities of other persons and groups within and outside STFM, (3) to develop an active voice for professional development funding in family medicine, and (4) to expand the scope of faculty development to encompass a broad range of professional development.

"Groups serve many different purposes but each of them provides an opportunity to get support from professionals with similar interests, values, and goals. This can be very helpful, particularly when you are the sole champion of a cause in your own department or residency." — John Nagle, MPA, University of Colorado Family Medicine Residency.
