About The FORUM

First held in 1980, The Forum for Behavioral Science in Family Medicine has served to stimulate the advancement of behavioral science in family medicine for 32 consecutive years. At the core of The Forum's success are three objectives: promote professional networking, provide practical and innovative professional development opportunities, and advance the integration of behavioral science in family medicine training. From its inception, The Forum has fostered a strong tradition of interaction between presenters and participants.

The Department of Family Medicine, Medical College of Wisconsin has financially sponsored The Forum since 1999, and The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine has recognized and endorsed the conference since 1981. The success of The Forum is a reflection of the dedicated efforts of behavioral scientists and family physicians to integrate behavioral science into the core of medical education.

It is a great privilege to serve as the program chair for The Forum. I hope you will join us in downtown Chicago to network, share, learn and renew your motivation to advance behavioral science education.

The Forum is organized around ten core content areas (see the Call for Proposals) which reflect the professional responsibilities of those who teach behavioral science. The program committee will consider proposals relevant to any of the ten core content areas for the 2012 conference. Additional program time will be devoted to the theme, PROMOTING WELL-BEING AND REFLECTION AMONG MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS. Proposals relevant to the theme receive preference in the review process. Please see the SUBMISSION GUIDELINES for details.

Who should submit a proposal? Behavioral scientists, family physicians, medical educators and others interested in behavioral science in primary care. Collaborative presentations by physicians and behavioral scientists or multi-site proposals are encouraged.

How are proposals reviewed? All proposals undergo a blinded review by the program committee. Identifying information should be removed from abstracts and session descriptions.
