Welcome to the online proposal submission application for the
The 30th Forum for Behavioral Science in Family Medicine
The theme for 2009 is "Behavioral Science Comes of Age: A Comprehensive Review of Effective and Innovative Teaching Strategies"
September 24-27, 2009
The Westin Lombard Yorktown Center
70 Yorktown Center, Lombard, IL
Submission Deadline extended to March 15, 2009
This year’s FORUM will provide participants the opportunity to present, review and develop effective and innovative teaching strategies in a broad spectrum of curricular and clinical areas. We have restructured The FORUM around ten content areas (tracks) which represent the curricular responsibilities and professional functioning of behavioral science faculty. We are seeking proposals in all track areas with the emphasis on teaching strategies that work. Our ambitious goal for 2009 is to organize a conference which captures 30 years of behavioral science training and provides our participants a comprehensive selection of behavioral science materials, skills and ideas immediately applicable to the many domains for which we are responsible. Simply stated, we intend for the 30th FORUM to provide you “everything you wanted to know about behavioral science, and then some!”
Who? Behavioral scientists, family physicians, medical educators and others interested in behavioral science in primary care are invited to submit proposals. We encourage collaborative presentations by physician/behavioral scientist teams and with learners such as fellows and residents.
What? Our goal for 2009 is to provide as comprehensive a program as possible. As always, the purpose of the FORUM is to provide those who are dedicated to the advancement of behavioral science in medical education a wide array of effective and innovative teaching skills and resources. For the 30th FORUM proposals are being organized around the major domains or content areas (tracks) in which behavioral scientists teach. When you submit a proposal it will be necessary for you to identify a primary track which most closely aligns with your proposal.
The ten content areas for the 2009 FORUM are:
1. Physician-patient relationships and interpersonal skills
2. Resident support and well-being
3. Family systems and family-oriented care
4. Professional and personal development of behavioral scientists
5. Office-based counseling and psycho-social interventions
6. Behavioral medicine (motivational interviewing, group visits, healthy behaviors )
7. Recognition and treatment of psychiatric disorders in primary care (Clinical Track)
8. Collaborative and integrated care models and practices
9. Community and cross-cultural medicine
10. Specific curricular areas of focus (palliative care, interpersonal violence, etc)
