New Faculty Scholars

Since the inception of the New Faculty Scholars Award in 1988, more than 90 STFM members have received scholarships. The award is intended to provide STFM members who are in their first 2 years as full-time faculty and who exhibit outstanding leadership potential the opportunity to attend the STFM Annual Spring Conference. This introduction to 1,000 or more STFM members leads to community-building activities such as participation in groups and membership on committees and task forces. Three to seven awards are made annually.

"You’ve asked about the impact of the New Faculty Scholarship Award on my career.  First, the award was validation that my work might be headed in the right direction. It provided some positive reinforcement at an early stage of my career. Second, I met leaders in our discipline literally from A to Z, Bob Avant to Ed Shahady to Joe Scherger to Nik Zervanos!  I learned from their leadership, mentor-ship, and friendship.  Third, the people I met and the conference presentations I attended challenged me to think about family medicine in new, different, and exciting ways."
