New Faculty Scholars

Since the inception of the New Faculty Scholars Award in 1988, more than 90 STFM members have received scholarships. The award is intended to provide STFM members who are in their first 2 years as full-time faculty and who exhibit outstanding leadership potential the opportunity to attend the STFM Annual Spring Conference. This introduction to 1,000 or more STFM members leads to community-building activities such as participation in groups and membership on committees and task forces. Three to seven awards are made annually.

“The New Faculty Scholar Award not only provided support so that I could attend the Annual Spring Conference but more importantly it provided me with an opportunity to closely interact with leaders in family medicine at an early stage in my career development. I now rely on many of these people for guidance and mentorship, especially now that I am working as a faculty member at an ‘orphan institution.’

I encourage all STFM members to support development of family medicine leaders by nominating people for these awards and contributing financially to the Foundation's programs. Making a contribution in monthly installments has allowed me to increase my giving so there's little reason one can't give and give generously. I'll borrow from that adage many of us heard during residency to ‘do one, teach one’ and ask all STFM members to ‘nominate someone, fund someone’ as we work to advance family medicine.”"
