Program Details
This program provides scholarships to the STFM Annual Spring Conference for STFM members who in their first 2 years as full-time faculty exhibit outstanding leadership potential. Since its inception in 1988, this program has supported the attendance of 98 new faculty at this conference.
This award is the STFM Foundation's initiative to develop leaders in our discipline. Attendance at national meetings is one way to help develop leaders and leadership skills. This award is for up to $2,000 and is intended to cover travel and hotel expenses for attendance at the 2012 STFM Annual Spring Conference in Seattle, WA.
Award Criteria
The nominee must:
- Be an active member of STFM. This could be demonstrated by citing on the nominee's CV participation as an involved member of an STFM group and/or presenting at an STFM conference.
- Be a full-time faculty member at a family medicine department or family medicine residency program who has been employed in academic family medicine for less than 2 years.
- Not currently be a fellow, either full time or part time.
- Arrive 1 day early to attend a preconference session of choice.
- Attend all designated Foundation functions at the Annual Spring Conference for New Faculty Scholar winners.
In addition, financial need for funding to attend the meeting will be considered.
Application Requirements
Electronic application must be received by November 30, 2011.
To nominate one of your faculty, please send an electronic document containing the following to Kay Frank.
- Letter of Nomination (with verification of the eligibility criteria)
- Candidate's personal statement regarding the opportunity
- Candidate's CV
The materials will be judged in two areas; both the nomination letter and the candidate's personal statement should address them.
Career Development
- What is your strategy for building your skills for a successful academic medicine career?
- What scholarly activities are you currently engaged in, and what have you completed?
- How would you use this opportunity to further your career?
Leadership Potential
- Discuss one of your previous leadership roles. What plans have you made for pursuing other leadership opportunities?
