Faculty Enhancement Experience

Established in 1996, the Faculty Enhancement Experience provides support for a 2-week visit by family medicine faculty to learn from leaders at institutions other than their own. The goal of this award is to enhance the leadership, teaching, and/or administrative skills of mid-career family medicine faculty. The program, designed by the applicant in collaboration with a colleague from the host institution, will incorporate planned activities specific to the applicant’s objectives. Up to four awards are made annually.

"Early in my academic career, I was the recipient of a Faculty Enhancement Award, which contributed to the development of the Rural Training Track at UTMB Family Medicine Residency. I am proud to say that the Rural Training Track continues to be one of the shining stars of the Residency Program and the development I was able to accomplish as a result of the FEA was a major reason. Additionally, my development as a faculty leader was promoted. This project helped me acquire the skills and confidence that later influenced my decision to become Residency Program Director and ultimately also to prepare me for my current role as Associate Dean for Educational Programs at UNTHSC Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. The Faculty Enhancement Award program definitely makes a difference to developing leaders for Family Medicine!"
