Introduction:

This workshop is sponsored by STFM and hosted by Ohio State University.

The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine is pleased to announce a new faculty development offering in Columbus, Ohio. On December 1, 2007 STFM will take our successful Faculty Development Series workshop on the road to Ohio State University. With many faculty forced to limit their travel due to shrinking budgets, we are bringing this full-day workshop to you!

We developed a local planning committee to guide our curriculum. Based on their feedback, we’re offering the faculty development workshop, Teaching One on One, the Basics and Beyond. Teaching is an important part of every physician’s day as we spend time teaching patients, residents, students, office staff, and fellow physicians. Even with experience, academic family physicians can still be challenged to create an effective learning climate, teach specific skills, and give effective feedback in a time-efficient manner.

In this workshop, we will use a three-track approach to allow both beginning, intermediate, and advanced participants to explore critical elements of the teaching-learning process, review “micro-skills” of clinical teaching, and examine challenges to teaching in various clinical settings. This workshop is intended to enhance participants’ abilities to effectively teach and evaluate various types and levels of learners in the clinical setting.

Register by October 26, and the conference fee is $185, which includes lunch, refreshment breaks, and curricular materials. The tuition for registrations received after October 26 is $210.
