Faculty Enhancement Program

The goal of this award is to enhance leadership, teaching, and/or administrative skills of mid-career family medicine faculty. Up to four awards are available per year, depending on the availability of funds and applicants. The award level is a maximum of $2,000 per individual.

The applicant and host institution will design an individualized faculty enhancement program that incorporates planned activities specific to the applicant's objectives. The program must be at least 2 weeks in length at the host institution(s). The host institution(s) should be departments of family medicine or family practice residency programs. The applicant must be a member of STFM and have a minimum of 3 years of faculty experience. These funds are not for salary support.

The application must include:

  1. Letter from applicant's institution verifying that the applicant will be given ample time to participate in the program.
  2. Applicant's stated objectives for the enhancement program.
  3. The planned activities, including how applicant will demonstrate achievement of objectives.
  4. Letter from host institution stating cooperation and understanding of planned activities.
  5. Budget request (maximum $2,000) and explanation of intended use of funds. Other sources of funding should be stated.
  6. Statements concerning funding preferences. Preference will be given to applicants who are about to undertake or have recently started a new family medicine education position, such as those becoming directors of predoctoral education, residencies, research programs, or faculty development programs. Preference will also be given to applicants who are not eligible for institutional sabbatical programs.
  7. Current applicant curriculum vitae.

Successful applicants must provide a report to the Foundation after the experience and may be asked to speak about their experience at the Foundation's annual reception. Attendance at the 2004 STFM Annual Spring Conference in Toronto is expected (at applicant's expense).

The postmark deadline for the receipt of applications is August 25, 2006.
