Frequently Asked Questions

Can my family attend the conference?

If you plan to bring family members to Washington, they are invited to attend the Congressional Reception hosted by FamMedPAC and AAFP Grassroots. The remainder of the schedule is open only to conference attendees.

Do I need to rent a car or take a cab to get from the airport to the hotel?

No, you do not need to rent a car, take the Metro or a cab from Reagan National Airport to the Grand Hyatt Washington Hotel. If you fly into Dulles International Airport, you’ll need to book shuttle service or take a taxi. Both metro and taxi service are available from Union Station for Amtrak customers.

When will we meet with congressional offices?

At the breakfast briefing on the second day of the Conference, you’ll meet with other attendees from your state to review issues, organize your visits, and discuss how best to communicate with legislators and staff. Then, you will travel to congressional offices with your colleagues to meet with your senators and representatives and their staff throughout the day.

Who schedules our appointments?

Most attendees will be responsible for scheduling at least one appointment with either their senator or representative for their delegation. This exercise is a valuable part of the FMCC experience and allows participants to begin building relationships with congressional offices prior to coming to Washington, DC. You will receive detailed information about scheduling appointments approximately one month prior to the conference.

What is the dress code for the conference?

On Monday, May 14, dress is business casual. On Tuesday, May 15, dress is business professional. Comfortable shoes are highly recommended as you will spend much of the day walking on Capitol Hill.

What should I bring?

Business Cards – You’ll want to leave them with congressional staff you meet.
Laptop Computers – We’ll post conference material on the website prior to the conference and distribute USB drives on site. Note: In an effort to constrain costs, the FMCC does not provide Wi-Fi access. There is free Wi-Fi access in the main lobby areas. Wi-Fi is also available for purchase in guest rooms.

Will transportation to congressional offices be provided?

Participants will be presented with a metro fare card that contains enough funds for one round trip. Metro cards will be available for pick up at the registration desk on Tuesday, May 15.
