A Series of Self-Directed Learning Modules to Build Proficiency in the Core Competencies of Family Medicine
fmCASES is set of online, virtual patient cases that lead medical students through the full breadth and depth of family medicine. These cases build clinical competency, fill educational gaps, and help instill the core values and attitudes of family medicine. They foster self-directed and independent study, build clinical problem-solving skills, and teach an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care. The virtual patient cases encompass the learning objectives of the National Family Medicine Clerkship Curriculum.
Access the cases at http://www.med-u.org/fmcases.
Access free cases on the concepts of high value care at http://www.med-u.org/population-health/high-value-care-hvc. (If your institution does not subscribe to MedU, then email firstname.lastname@example.org to request free access.)
FM Cases are developed and administered by MedU, a consortium of medical educators. Both institutional and individual subscriptions are available. Learn more about subscription options.
Continuing Medical Education Credits
Physicians/Preceptors can also earn CME credits by completing the fmCASES virtual cases. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) has designated each case for up to 1.5 hours of Prescribed Credit. Physicians can claim up to a total of 60 credits for all 40 cases. After completing any case, simply report the credits to AAFP. Funding for all Continuing Medical Education credits is provided by the PA Area Health Education Center Program.
In the spirit of quality in medical education, please offer your feedback on the fmCASES. After using fmCASES, complete a five-question evaluation. We look forward to receiving your feedback and comments.
