STFM Seeks Editor for
September 27, 2017—STFM is seeking an editor for its online precepting resource, The editor serves a 3-year term and will guide and implement the vision for the website.

Background is a comprehensive web-based resource that streamlines training questions and communicates regularly with preceptors on your behalf. It helps institutions recruit, train, and retain community preceptors and meet accreditation requirements for faculty development.

Primary Responsibilities

The editor will oversee improvements to the website's content, work with the Preceptor Expansion Action Plan where possible, lead calls with the Advisory Panel, and communicate on a regular basis with the STFM manager of online education.
The editor must have:
  • Experience precepting and working with community preceptors
  • Experience editing and writing content
  • The leadership skills necessary to work with the advisory panel
  • The ability to effectively promote the resource during presentations and webinars
The editor will:
  • Meet at least quarterly by phone with the manager of online education
  • Meet twice a year by phone with the Advisory Panel
  • Review existing content for accuracy and potential updates once over the course of the term
  • Recommend additional content or excision of outdated or unnecessary content
  • Oversee updates to content on the website
  • Write content on an occasional basis
  • Maintain and promote the vision of Teaching Physician, including presenting the resource at STFM conferences
  • Recommend strategies to increase usage of the site
  • Meet with members of the Preceptor Expansion Action Plan

Travel Requirements

Some in-person meetings with staff and/or faculty advisors may be required. Travel for these will be reimbursed. The editor will need to be able to attend the 2018 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education at the beginning of his or her term.


The editor will receive a $1,000 honorarium per year.
