Dennis Dimitri, MD, Selected for the 2015 STFM Advocate Award

Dennis Dimitri, MD, will receive the STFM Advocate Award at the 2015 STFM Annual Spring Conference in Orlando. This award honors STFM members for outstanding work in political advocacy. Dr Dimitri was selected due to his advocacy efforts in his home state of Massachusetts and for encouraging his students, residents, and peers to become involved in advocacy.

STFM President Sam Cullison, MD, recognized Dr Dimitri as a “key representative of our discipline, instrumental in leading important legislative advocacy efforts in Massachusetts” and for “representing family medicine to state legislators during historic landmark healthcare reform.”

Dr Dimitri is the clinical associate professor and vice chair of the Clinical Services, Family Medicine, and Community Health at UMass Memorial Medical Center and UMass Medical School. He has served as a gubernatorial appointee to the Massachusetts Healthcare Workforce Advisory Council, chair to the Worcester District Medical Society Legislative Committee, on the UMMHC Center for the Advancement of Primary Care Executive Committee, and as president to the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians.

Nominations for the 2016 STFM Advocate Award will open later this fall. To get involved in advocacy efforts on the local and national level, join the CAFM Advocacy Network or get online training with our brand new advocacy modules.
