STFM Launches Faculty Development Delivered

August 31, 2016—The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine has launched Faculty Development Delivered, a revamped and expanded version of its popular mobile faculty development workhsops, On the Road.

“Along with the name change, we have expanded content that can be delivered to keep up with a changing educational environment; for example: burnout, resilience, and joy in practice,” said Jeffrey Haney, MD. Dr Haney serves as the program’s chair and has been a long time faculty member of the program.

The Faculty Development Delivered program is a customized experience for medical schools and residency programs. STFM sends highly respected speakers with expertise in desired content areas to train any number of faculty for a half day or full day workshop and conference experience. STFM created this program to provide a lower-cost alternative to sending faculty to national conferences and to provide targeted training experiences tailored to the faculty’s needs.

“We feel like what we offer is incredibly valuable,” said Dr Haney. “We have also added post-session check-ins to reinforce what is learned during sessions. For the future, we are discussing the possibility of faculty development consultations and regionally based workshops.”

The previous version of this program, called On the Road, has received many accolades for being an effective economical investment for programs.

Oscar Noriega, MD, the residency program director at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center says that this program has “provided a strong sense of direction, putting us 'On the road to Success,' involving our whole department and re-energizing us individually to pursue our scholarly goals and dreams." He explains that both speakers were "awesome and very down to earth," and they provided "the basic tools and nuts and bolts for our academic survival and success.”
