The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), a 501(c)(6) professional association, is dedicated to advancing family medicine to improve health through a community of teachers and scholars. We provide resources, training, and advocacy to help health professionals at teaching sites educate future family physicians.

STFM is seeking a full-time Publications Specialist to manage the everyday workflow of two scholarly journals focused on family medicine education research, as well as other editing and writing projects as assigned. The perfect candidate should be able to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment

Primary Responsibilities

  • Edit and design layout of scholarly manuscripts
  • Administer a comprehensive online manuscript submission and review tracking system
  • Manage printing and delivery workflows to ensure consistent on-time delivery of journals
  • Maintain the journal websites, including posting all manuscripts online 
  • Promote the external presence of journals (eg, electronic table of contents, social media efforts, press releases, special projects)
  • Track journal metrics, research trends, gather and prepare progress reports
  • Offer support to editors and director of publications on related projects
  • Serve as staff support to journal editorial boards, including developing agendas and planning meetings
  • Process requests from commercial users, authors, and others for reprints and article fulfillment
  • Edit, format, and upload other projects as assigned, ie conference abstracts, curriculum submissions
  • Coordinate STFM award nominations and the STFM Journalism Fellowship
  • Assist with various writing and editing projects

Key Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Strong editor/writer/communicator
  • Proficiency in InDesign and Photoshop
  • Aptitude for new technologies as well as a familiarity with Web content management systems
  • Knowledge of AMA style preferred
  • Experience with ScholarOne or other journal submission software helpful, but not required
