The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) is an association of nearly 5,000 innovative family medicine educators. These teachers include medical school professors, preceptors, residency program faculty, residency program directors and others involved in family medicine education.
The STFM administrative offices are housed with the American Academy of Family Physicians in Leawood, Kansas. Two advocacy staff have offices in Washington, DC.
STFM was founded in 1967.
Advancing family medicine to improve health through a community of teachers and scholars
To become the indispensable academic home for every family medicine educator
Transforming health care through education
The STFM Board of Directors implemented a 3-year strategic plan in 2012 to guide the activities of the organization. The plan includes five key priority areas. Inherent in this plan is STFM's support for diversity of faculty, including discipline, race, gender, and sexual orientation.
